Memory Loss:

Memory loss can include difficulties recalling what we have recently learned or to what we learned in the past. It can occur as a result of dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, anxiety, depression, a side effect of some medications or other organic condition. Recognition is another type of memory but cues are available to help us “remember”, like a sound or visual stimuli.

Motivation:
Decreased motivation is frequently seen in the elderly as people lose cognitive and physical abilities. It is usually a sign that some depressive disorder is present and that professional help is needed to assist that person. A skilled diagnosis is the first step in treating this symptom and to maximize intervention efforts with the elderly. An important strategy that I utilize is to consider the unique history and personality of that person in order to target meaningful associations for treatment.
