ADD - ADHD:
Attention Deficit Disorder and
Attention Deficit Hypertensive Disorder

ADD – ADHD is a condition which is first seen in childhood. It is nine times more prevalent in males than females, and its symptoms frequently continue into adulthood. The primary features for ADD are inattention, difficulties concentrating, organizing and completing tasks, forgetfulness and distractibility. In ADHD, in addition to the symptoms mentioned above, fidgetiness, excessive talking and/or movements are present. In cases with impulsiveness, the individual frequently blurts out answers before questions are asked, is intrusive and interruptive.

These disorders have no bearing on intelligence but can affect academic performance and self-esteem due to the behaviors associated with them. The patients and their parents whom I have treated for this condition learn that first of all, there is a name for what they have and that the condition is nobody’s fault. By accepting they have a problem and working out the ways to deal with it, children and families can become closer than ever before.
