Divorce Issues & Childhood:

Divorce is a very unsettling experience for most adults. It can be more unsettling for children as they frequently have to comply with structured visitation, changes in lifestyle, moving to new schools, making new friends and adapting to single parent households. I have worked with children who have exhibited behavior problems, sleep and eating disorders, academic problems, anxiety and depressive symptoms. Very often, communication problems arise between the parents and children, thereby increasing the anger and confusion.

Single Parenting Issues:

Being a single parent is quite likely the most challenging job there could be. Whether you begin your job as a parent being a single parent or you become a single parent later on, the responsibilities can be overwhelming. However difficult times can become however, you can find solace that one day things will become easier and you will look back on those hard days of loneliness and frustration and realize that there were some fun times mixed in with the demands of child-rearing. I feel that by stepping back from where you might be now as a single parent, and using some mental imagery to picture yourself as you would like to be 2 years, 5 years, and 10 years from now is a good way to begin reducing your stress level and planning how to get your own life back into focus.
