Anorexia:

Anorexia is a disorder in which a person severely restricts the amount of food eaten. Very often these individuals are extremely underweight and have nutritional and metabolic abnormalities which can cause death. This disorder is more frequently seen in females than males and is associated with depression. Individuals suffering from anorexia know that they are unhealthy but believe they that curtailing food intake is the only way they can exert control over their lives.

Bulimia:

Bulimia is present when a person binges on one or more foods to the extent that the amount consumed is way above a normal portion of that food. Eating a half-gallon of ice cream, a whole cake or pie, box of cookies, or a pound of candy in one sitting would be examples of bulimia. The person then may or may not cause themselves to eliminate the foods by vomiting or taking laxatives. Bulimic individuals’ weights can fluctuate widely and they usually have several clothing sizes on hand to accommodate these weight changes. Bulimia can be interspersed with anorexia, making him or her a high risk for medical problems.
