Becoming a Parent is one of the most demanding responsibilities people can face: there is no “owners’ manual” that comes with a child. Very often parents can feel overwhelmed and confused about their capabilities as parents. This is normal and is a positive indicator of the parent’s awareness of the future challenges which accompany child-rearing. Nevertheless, sleepless nights, worrying, financial difficulties and maintaining work schedules are some of the symptoms people experience as they adjust to parenting demands. In my practice, I have worked with my patients to learn how to become more effective parents while still maintaining their own identities. Career Change occurs more often today than ever before due to changes in the world economy and its effects on the workforce. Change always brings with it stress as we all would prefer to keep things familiar with no surprises. Even when the winds of change bring positive transformation, we experience stress in the form of “good” stress (or eustress). The effects are the same as negative (or distress) on our psyches and bodies. If career change is inevitable, we can learn how to take the positive aspects out of the incident and use the change as a springboard for making other transitions for our future | Life Transitions | |
