Medical Conditions and Mental Health:

Medical Conditions can have negative effects on a person’s mental health. Reliable scientific research has indicated that disease processes, infections, chronic medical conditions and allergies affect that person’s outlook on emotional functioning. Cognitive Psychology is based on the relationship between our thoughts, emotions and behaviors. In other words, if we become incapacitated by illness or disability, the way we think about ourselves changes, which affects how we feel about ourselves, which affects our actions. When this cycle becomes negative, our thoughts, feelings and behaviors become negative. This results in depression, anxiety and frequently, a self-defeating lifestyle, which ultimately complicates the medical issues. A working relationship between a person’s medical provider and Psychologist is usually an advantageous affiliation for the patient.
