Illness Related Stress:

Acute Illness Issues arise when there is not only the physical pain and suffering accompanying the illness but also the psychosocial problems like a disruption in a person’s income, business and family, but also the many high costs associated with the illness, whether a person has health insurance or not. Symptoms include anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances and other personal turmoil. Many times there are adjustments which must be made to a person’s lifestyle which are difficult to achieve until a sense of normality resumes in the person’s life. Chronic Pain and Chronic Illness Issues leave a person with difficult problems to cope with that can be associated with pain killers, frequent medical visits to hospitals or clinics, loss of income, lifestyle, intimacy, and other important aspects of life. Learning how to live with chronic pain or illness is one of the most difficult challenges in life as well as being one of the most depressing. I have found that coordinating psychological care with a patient’s medical provider is one of the most helpful ways to reduce the fearfulness and depression which inevitably accompanies these conditions.

Insomnia:

Insomnia is a type of sleep disorder which involves difficulties falling asleep. There are several prescription and over the counter medications to help with this problem. However, when they are used on a nightly basis, a dependency results in which a person is unable to fall asleep without that medication. There are basic sleep hygiene practices which, when used over time, can result in reduced insomnia.

Occupational Stress:

Occupational Stress results from occupational settings in which employees fear for the loss of their jobs, are placed under undue work productivity schedules, or are expected to produce unreasonable output under threat of loss of benefits or promotion. Chronic stress results in chronic anxiety. At some point, employee and employer will have to confront the situation in order for its resolution, which may result in the employee leaving the job for another less stressful occupation
